Movie Analysis ;D

Image
Today is class we chose any short film we found interest in and got a rubric we can base our rating off! the rubric;  The title of my short film is; THE THING IN THE APARTMENT I would give the film 20 points on the criteria that it keeps the story interesting and in my opinion holds the audiences' attention throughout the whole film. I think the opening of the film jumping into one of the main character (Sam) being called by her friend (Lindsay) who is panicked and scared of something going on in her apartment (there being a thing in the apartment ;D ) keeps the audience hooked from the get go due to its suspense and tells us to expect our focus to be automatically needed to keep watching if we want to know what happens. I want to keep watching to find out what is going on and if she will be able to help her friend and not get tangled in the danger while trying to save her. I would give the film 15 points for its demonstration of camera work and editing used to enhance the st...

Case Study; Mise En Scene :)

The Quiet Place (2018) ;  https://youtu.be/4CmmKmlXD9I?si=5pIefrX7jSg_d9px This is my case study on a clip from the movie ‘A Quiet Place’! I analyzed the miss-en-scene of this clip. Setting and Art Direction:  The scene opens at an isolated train track in a forest leading to a lonesome bridge that immediately establishes the characters  '  decision to keep moving forward, despite the fear of the unknown and after what  was  previously shown (people dying at any little sound made). The setting is deep in the forest  ,  with multiple trees  and  branches fallen on the  ground,   and  train tracks and bridges leading the characters deeper into the empty  woods  . The forest is indicated to be lonely by the different views used, which show no other background characters other than the main family (to visualize that the family does not know if they are the only ones safe or if other people are still alive aro...

Mood boards :P

Image
For this blog, I decided to take on the task of imagining myself as a set designer! I just had to imagine four scenes I'd ever like to create, and then I made four mood boards (collages) to highlight/visualize different elements of these scenes, such as location, set, props, actors, lighting, and color. Scene 1;  When constructing this image, I chose a park setting with open spaces in the grass, with picnic tables and a picnic blanket on the grass to suggest relaxation, community, and the togetherness of a school trip. I added  items  like food, a book, a ukulele, and some games because I wanted the scene to feel playful and relaxed while still showing that the gathering had a special, meaningful vibe. By showing students (actors) sitting in a circle, I  aimed  to suggest friendship and connection. The bright natural lighting and blue sky create a welcoming mood, which invites viewers to recall their warmth-filled moments with others. These choices were ma...

Sound Art Project ;D

This is the sound project me and my friend/classmate Tati worked on in class! it includes our four foley sounds and in total is ten sounds representing a scene. Scene;  Chilling in a Forest:  Flow of water (stream sounds) Wood peckers pecking Leaves/branches falling Leaves crunching Wind bustling Growling animals Twigs snapping Rain Buzzing Insects Slithering snake This is the audio file for our project:  Foley Sound Audio This is the video file for our project (includes our own foley sounds):  Foley Sound Video - We used a sink, we kept it running for the stream sounds - We used a prop/statue in the library and just tapped our nails against it to make sounds of wood peckers pecking - We crunched a little bit of paper and just let it drop to the ground, to create a faint sound of leaves/branches falling - We used the same paper and just put it on the ground and stepped/stomped over it

Case Studyy :)

Up (2009) Opening Scene ;  https://youtu.be/XO77YuyMOek?si=0KCcGZm7VbzjPOP5 This is my case study on the movie Up! I identified different elements of films by analyzing their opening scenes. 0:00 - 0:11: The scene begins with a close-up shot of a camera flash, this sudden burst of light immediately draws the audiences attention and transitions into a mid shot and establishing shot of main character’s Carl and Ellie. It also includes close-up shots of the friends/people in attendance of their wedding. This use of intimate close-up shots allow the audience to feel personally connected and to think that they are at the wedding, the mid shot shows both of their perspectives toward getting married, they are both smiling and happy and that transitions into the establishing shot to show where they are getting married (a church) and the overall happiness/good vibes emanating from this section. The use of shallow depth of field during close-ups blurs the background, keeping the ...

Camera Movements :P

Image
For this blog, I went ahead and decided to take some videos of my friends just doing random things around the library and decided to incorporate them into my assignment! My Camera Movements/Shots: Static Shot: For this shot, I have my camera set up on a tripod, so I can get a clear, non-shaky shot of me and my friends playing ring a round a rosie.  This shot can give somebody a strong feeling of friendship and belonging, as they are looking in on a fun, carefree moment.  Handheld: This shot is taken straight from my phone camera and I have no stands or professional cameras, so, it is showing the shakiness of my hands. This evokes feelings of horror as the guy being watched, Alex Jones, has mixed opinions that may be controversial. Tilt: This is a movement where the camera is remaining static, but is moving up and down to show the span of the wall and the American flag and camera in front of it. This movement may evoke feelings of patriotism, as it shows the American flag...

Classmates Commentary ;D

Image
Commenting on Classmates Blogs :> In this entry, I am going to be commentating on two of my friends/classmates shots/angles from their blogs!! Class mate #1: Aiden;  https://aidenlikesducks.blogspot.com/2025/08/camera-shotsangles.html An over-the-shoulder shot: This is a shot from my friend Aiden's blog which shows the camera faced behind him and slightly angled to look at the library over the point of his shoulder. I think this shot is meant to give an eery feeling as it is him just looking at the empty side of the library and we cannot see his face. A high-angle shot: This is a shot where the camera is focused to the top/angled to look down at a classmate named Adrian. This shot is meant to give a Birds Eye view of the environment at a library table and introduce what work Adrian is doing in the library.     An aerial shot: This is a shot where the camera is looking directly down at four of the same books. I think this shot is meant to create confusion such as why t...
