For this blog, I decided to take on the task of imagining myself as a set designer! I just had to imagine four scenes I'd ever like to create, and then I made four mood boards (collages) to highlight/visualize different elements of these scenes, such as location, set, props, actors, lighting, and color.
Scene 1;
When constructing this image, I chose a park setting with open spaces in the grass, with picnic tables and a picnic blanket on the grass to suggest relaxation, community, and the togetherness of a school trip. I added items like food, a book, a ukulele, and some games because I wanted the scene to feel playful and relaxed while still showing that the gathering had a special, meaningful vibe. By showing students (actors) sitting in a circle, I aimed to suggest friendship and connection. The bright natural lighting and blue sky create a welcoming mood, which invites viewers to recall their warmth-filled moments with others. These choices were made to construct meaning around belonging, connection, and the enjoyment of simple moments.
Scene 2;
When constructing this image, I chose a part of the forest that has a lake and multiple wind-bustling trees around, with leaves on the ground between tree openings for the location/set to show the feeling of solitude and freedom from the air blowing in your face. I added props like signs showing the way leading to different areas of the forest because I wanted the audience to visualize walking in the forest and feel the fresh air. By showing the example of the girl (actress) with her hair and clothes blowing in the wind, I'm conveying her feelings of joy, freedom, and the dynamics of being alive. The bright and shadowy lighting and the beige cloudy color create a peaceful and inviting mood. These choices were made to construct meaning around self-discovery, comfort, and living in the moment.
Scene 3;
When constructing this image, I chose a nice homely dining room in a house with large windows and some mismatched chairs , along with personal items like flowers and other decorations for the location/set to convey a sense of belonging and gratitude. I added props like cups, pots, drinks, and other ingredients to reflect family customs, connection, and authenticity. By showing actors portraying a family of all ages and generations sharing a toast and enjoying a nice dinner together, I'm illustrating the dynamics of a family that finds time to get together despite their busy schedules to appreciate each other and celebrate the holidays ; this creates an inviting and pleasant atmosphere. The warm and homely lighting and colors convey feelings of comfort, coziness, and intimacy.
Scene 4;
When constructing this image, I chose a dark, rainy, soaked street with some stores and neon signs for the location/set to show the intriguing, mysterious, and cinematic place. I added props like umbrellas to give a realistic feel to the audience so they could visualize from the mood board and imagine themselves in the position of the actors, who are maybe wearing raincoats and holding up umbrellas , going about their night, perhaps trying to get home safely through the rain. The dark and grey lighting and color convey feelings of mystery ; they allure you into wanting to know what is going on or what is happening . It shows one of the hidden beauties of the rain in an unconventional way because most people are scared of the dark, but the rain around you and the wind bustling can make you feel free and want to live in the moment.
